In Jerry’s absence, this week, we had a wonderful opportunity to learn about Biblical Parenting from Matt Waymeyer.  We learned that success in parenting is not found in the results.  Instead, successful parenting is found in our faithfulness to immediate work with our children.  God’s Word gives us five principle goals in our work:

  1. Be a godly example for our children (Luke 6:40).
  2. Be diligent in prayer – Neglecting prayer is the habit of some who are accustomed to getting things done themselves.  They may think diligent and patient prayer is not action oriented enough.  This could not be further from the Truth found in God’s Word.  Pray and trust the Lord in all things (Proverbs 3:5).
  3. Be faithful in instruction (Deuteronomy 6:6-7).  Biblical instruction is a way of life.
  4. Consistent in discipline (Hebrews 12:7).
  5. Affectionate in love (Philippians 4:8-9).

As we handle our work as faithful parents, we pray and keep in mind that it is God who saves and it is God who sanctifies our children.  Our ultimate goal is to bring glory to God (1 Corinthians 10:31) as we labor in our work.

For further study fathers, Matt reminded us of Jerry Wragg’s sermon on September 25th of this year called, “Eight Gifts From A Father To His Children.”  Here is a link to that message, in case you missed it:  http://www.gibcjupiter.org/pages/sermons/detail/sermon/3000.
