Every Lord's Day, we should pray that God's Word will have the following impact on us:

  1. God's Word should confront my world view (Romans 12:2):  Our world view is simply our grid of convictions that shape how we live.
  2. God's Word should reconstitute your mind (Romans 12:2).
  3. God's Word should cement new convictions into your heart (John 2:23-25; Matthew 7:22-23): After putting new truths into your mind, you must believe it.
  4. God's Word should expose our sinful motivations (Hebrews 4:12):  God's word is piercing and sufficient to expose thoughts and intentions.  If you are cloudy, go to God's Word and let it do its precise work to reveal your motives.
  5. Through the power of God's Word idolatry should be crushed (Luke 14:25-33).  Idolatry is the worship of self through the worship of earthly objects or people.  Our highest affection must be Christ.  It is an exclusive relationship; no other relationship with anything or anybody may rival your love of Jesus Christ.

Our highest expression of our worship is humble faith in His Word and the fruit of it is conformity to His will ---- obedience!  Obedience is the fruit of our exclusive worship of Christ and His Word.
